Poster inspirations
These posters have given me ideas for our poster for our film "death smile". I think the main one which would be good for our film is the uninvited poster as it holds the same threat as ours does, and in our film the threat starts outside the house, like the girl in this poster. I liked 'The Thing' poster as the threat is shown within the title, which makes it unique and shows the importance of the threat. i also was inspired by the ring, as our threat is very similar and our story-lines are similar.
production company logos - dark castle entertainment
Dark Castle Entertainment is a production company associated with Warner Brothers. It has produced films such as the House of Wax and Gothika. The colour is mainly dark to show that it is a horror film, however the moon in the background of the logo is bright and so contrasts with the castle, and we can only see the silhouette of the castle, hence the name "dark castle". At the beginning on the sequence, there is a lion roaring however the images keep blurring, which makes the audience weary of the unknown. It zooms out and we see the lion is a part of the castle and then lighting flashes and we are left with the image above. the layout leaves the logo in the middle and so emphasises that this is the main component. There is a white box around the castle and the name of the company showing its importance again.
production company logos - ghost house pictures.
Ghost house pictures uses a bold font in capital letters to establish the company and show it is of a horror genre. the sequence shows a door slamming shut and then there is a zoom in of the key hole and the skull appears on the other side. the text then swishes into place (almost like you would expect a ghost to 'swish'). The colours are kept simple and are not very established, the main focus is on the skull and the text. the iconography is of course the skull, as this links to the name of "ghost house productions". The door being slammed shut links to the 'house' part, as this is the door to the "ghost house". The audience can tell that this is going to be a horror film, based on the skull and the door being slammed - making the audience imagine being trapped in this ghost house.
production company logos - twisted pictures
The twisted pictures logo has something twisting round it to represent the fact that its called 'twisted pictures'. after this, a dagger stabs between the words on screen, and so the audience know the film is going to be violent/horror. This relates to the iconography, the audience will know from seeing the twisting feature that it is a twisted pictures production. This company is mainly known for producing the saw film series, which is why the name 'twisted pictures' suits the type of films produced. The font is bold and stands out, as the font is white and the background black, there is a strong contrast, catching the audience's eye. Again, the text is in the middle of the screen highlighting its importance. The twisting feature gives a sense of being trapped, which again shows what type of film they are about to see.
filming
we were unable to film this weekend again (the 25th Feb) due to the wig still not arriving. However some of the opening credits were filmed on friday. We are aiming to film the whole thing on saturday, whether the wig has come or not.
production company logos - dreamworks
This is the production logo used in the ring 2. It is the same as any other dreamworks production apart from the music in the background is intense and creepy, giving a sense of horror. The iconography is the clouds and the lake which allows the audience to see that this is a dreamworks production. The colours are quite dark and blue. You can see from the colours that it is night time, and horror movies are generally set at night. The layout is simple, yet effective, you can tell it is a dreamworks production and it is framed so that you can clearly see the logo and the name of the company.
Production Company Logo Research
Twisted Pictures is an American independent production company, mainly creating films of the horror genre. The company was founded in 2004 by Evolution Entertainment's Mark Burg, Oren Koules and Gregg Hoffman. The Twisted Pictures Logo's are known for producing the Saw Film Series.
The font and colour of this logo is pretty simple, a contrast of the white writing and the black background makes the writing stand out and the font is pretty blocked. The stake and barbed wire around the writing draws attention to it, it also describes the genre of the film and lets the audience know that its a gory genre. The writing in directly in the middle of the screen and with the black-white contract the audience are drawn to it.
The logo establishes the them and one of the coming feature by the barbed wire and steak which twists and cuts the writing. This suggests that the genre is gore and that the following feature has some sort of danger in it.

Lions Gate Entertainment Corporation (commonly referred to as Lionsgate) is a North American entertainment company. It was founded 6th June 1997 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Up to 2011 it is known to be the most commercially successful independent film and television distribution company in North America.
The font and Colour of this logo all suggests danger. The colour red is often used to signal something as being 'Dangerous', also with the clouds in the background, the audience could resemble it as being the gates of hell. The writing kind of jumps out of the screen because of the 3D effect of the clouds in the background. The font is simple and is gold so a contrast is formed. If this contrast wasn't formed the writing would blend into the background. For the layout, the writing is in the middle of the screen, it almost looks as if it is flying.
The logo establishes the theme and tone of the coming feature by stereotyping the colour red as being dangerous. The audience will feel fear about it and will feel as if the film will be about the devil and/or hell.

Legendary Pictures is an American film production company, whose parent company, Legendary Entertainment, is based in Burbank, California and was founded by Thomas Tull in 2004. In 2005 the company concluded a 40-picture agreement to co-produce and co-finance with Warner Bros.
The font and the colour of this logo is very simple. It has a contrast of a black background and gold writing. The gold writing could suggest importance/ money. The writing is in the middle of the screen and also has a little logo above it. The audience is drawn to the writing as it is in the middle of the screen.
Universal Pictures (sometimes called Universal City Studios or Universal Studios for short), a subsidiary of NBCUniversal, is one of the six major movie studios.
Founded in 1912 by Carl Laemmle, it is the oldest American movie studios still in continuous production; the next oldest is Paramount Pictures. On May 11, 2004, the controlling stake in the company was sold by Vivendi Universal to General Electric, parent of NBC.
As you can see here, the Universal Studios logo at the start of film 'Van Helsing' begins to burst into flames and then proceeds to be a part of a characters prop (a fire ball). The logo is manipulated to the films genre as Universal is such a wide spread logo for numerous film genres.
The colour and font of this logo is a little complicated, The writing sweeps across the world and is in 3D, so it jumps out of the screen to the audience and is more interesting. T icon turns from colour to black and white to suit the film when it become a characters prop. There is still a contract between the writing/world to the background which is just plain black, this makes the logo even more interesting. Because the logo turns into the prop, the audience are immediately engrossed into the film.

Reflective Evaluation
This is the columbia pictures logo for the Grudge 2. This logo represents a demon/ghost film well and creates fear. The logo starts off normal and fine but then the lights go out and it appears, this is a typical convention in ghost/demon horror films. The logo uses flashing and darkness to alarm the audience. In horror films when the lights go out you know something bad is about to happen, so it is preparing you for the beginning of the film. Also in the darkness something appears and in the logo with each flash the grudge appears.
The logo starts off normal and fine but then the lights go out and it appears, this is a typical convention in ghost/demon horror films. At the end of the logo there is one light left, it is very dim and soon goes out, this creates fear because we already saw the grudge was there and now we cant see anything, we don't know where the grudge is.

Reflective Evaluation - Gem
This is the twisted pictures logo. I feel that this logo represents the film quite well as it includes barbed while which makes the film seem to have a fear factor and make gore. The background and writing are both plain, just black and white. However; they contrast each other and the writing stands out in kind of 3D way, this attracts the audience. Also there is a huge spike in the middle of the 2 words, this then animates to twist and cut the words, This will surprise the audience and make them wonder what's going to happen in the film. For my film logo, i will want to make something like this which will cause the same effect on the audience.
Filming
We were unable to film because the wig hadn't arrived and the snow restricted the buses we will have to film throughout half term.
